Heatwave experiment

A heatwave experiment has been initiated at the experimental aquaria, based on the simulation of a marine heatwave recorded in the Eastern Mediterranean in June 2021. The sponge Chondrilla nucula, a typical dweller of the local shallow habitats, will be subjected to stress during the experiment, and its response to stress will be assessed through gene expression with RAD sequencing. MACCIMO PI Dr Elisavet Kaitetzidou will supervise the experiment, assisted by affiliated Erasmus+ student Ms Carlotta Paone (University of Algarve, Portugal).
